Illuminate Special Dances & Speeches

As the days grow shorter and the leaves change colors, fall brings a unique charm to gatherings, especially when it comes to speeches and dances. Whether you're hosting a cozy autumn wedding, a corporate event, or a school dance, the right lighting can make all the difference. However, the challenge lies in providing ample illumination without casting intimidating shadows on the dance floor. In this article, we'll explore how to use video lights effectively during the fall season, ensuring your events are beautifully lit without scaring people away from the dance floor.

Choosing the Right Video Light

When selecting video lights for your fall events, opt for lights with adjustable brightness and color temperature settings.

Lower-powered video lights

Lower- powered video lights like LED panel lights are an excellent choice for weddings. LED panels are portable, affordable and easy to set up.

Pros

  • These work for most wedding situations.

  • They are so light, I can carry one around in my camera bag all day.

  • Easy to set up and move around. I don’t even carry a light stand around with me- I mount mine on top of my B-CAM!

  • Affordable! I bought these Viltrox lights from amazon

Cons:

  • They aren’t as strong as other video lights and a lot of times they won’t be illuminate a whole room.

  • If dances and speeches are in different places, they may have to be moved around.

  • When tables are too close to the bride and groom, sometimes it can be tough to maneuver these around wedding guests and servers.

Higher powered video lights

Higher powered video lights are a more expensive option but are great because they give you more control over lighting in a room.

Pros

  • More power, more control over the light in the room.

  • They can create a really nice flare in the camera.

  • Once they are set up, you won’t move them!

  • I bought these Godox Lights from amazon

Cons:

  • They are more expensive. A lot of times, you need to buy separate light stands.

  • I’ve had guests complain that they are too bright.

  • They are tough to lug around all day.

Purchasing tips:

Make sure the light has an adjustable color temperature

When purchasing an LED panel or panels, make sure you that they change color ( You want something that ranges from 5500k- 3200k). When shooting, you want to make sure you ask the photographer if they have a preferred color temp.

Consider battery-powered lights

If your fall events are held in locations with limited access to power outlets, battery-powered video lights can be a lifesaver. These lights offer mobility and can be strategically placed without being tethered to electrical sources. Ensure you have spare batteries on hand to keep the lights running throughout the event.

Illuminating power

Make sure your light can illuminate a subject from about 15 feet away. Some of the smaller, cheaper LED’s like the Lume Cube are too weak to illuminate a subject from a safe distance.

As we transition into the enchanting fall season, using video lights for speeches and dances can elevate your events to the next level. By choosing the right equipment, positioning lights strategically, and adjusting settings thoughtfully, you can separate your subject from the background and create more beautiful and deep wedding video! PS- Remember to turn your lights off during open dance floor so as not to scare shy dancers off.
