Theater on the Lake Wedding
Pria & Chris’s Theater on the Lake wedding blended Western wedding traditions with the bride’s Bengali heritage, and we’re giving you all the deets!
Theater on the Lake is an amazing Chicago wedding venue with the ability to host your wedding ceremony and reception, all in one location. The venue hosts weddings that are both intimate and grand with the ability to accommodate 20 guests or 1500 (yes, one thousand and five hundred!). Take it from us, it’s rare to find a Chicago wedding venue with the amount of versatility found in Theater on the Lake. If that’s not enough to convince you to host your Chicago wedding at Theater on the Lake, we’ll also tell you that this historic venue was built in 1920 and fully renovated in 2017. So it has all the modern-day amenities needed to host your best day ever in its prairie-style structure with steel arched trusses. Pretty dreamy right?!
Safe to say that Pria and Chris were super intentional when they selected their wedding venue. They needed a venue that could host every single one of their celebratory, ululating family members along with their lifelong friends. Theatre on the Lake gave them the space needed for their blended ceremony and their dance all night until your feet hurt reception. Their wedding at Theatre on the Lake was nothing short of incredible, and you’ll get to see every single amazing detail in their Chicago wedding video below.
Pria and Chris asked Pria’s uncle to officiate their vows. We gotta tell you, he absolutely nailed it! Pria’s uncle was able to incorporate Bengali Hindu wedding traditions into their union such as the garland exchange (varmala), the tying of the knot, and the symbolic seven steps (saptapadi). The seven steps in a Hindu wedding ceremony represent the promises and vows that Pria and Chris are making to one another towards this new chapter in their life together. Additionally, the seven steps occur around a fire, which symbolizes a spiritual presence in their life together. It is witnessed by their family as a way that their two souls have now become one.

In addition to the sacred Hindu traditions of their wedding ceremony, Pria and Chris also added in a few Western wedding traditions such as exchanging wedding rings, and reciting “I dos”. They sealed their union with a great big newlywed kiss. A celebratory outburst erupted from their guests, and Pria & Chris were officially joined in marriage. You know what that means, right? It was time for one big epic party!
Pria and Chris made a grand entrance to their wedding reception at Theater on the Lake with some of the most fun dance moves we’ve ever seen! Seriously, they were epic. Before their reception kicked off, Chris changed from his formal military attire (which he wore during the ceremony) to a sleek “I’m here to party” kind of tux. When it was time to hit the dance floor for the night, Pria also underwent a wardrobe change and dressed for their reception in an ornate embroidered bridal lehenga. After deeply heartfelt speeches from their parents and members of their wedding party, Pria and Chris spent the rest of the evening tearing up the dance floor surrounded by well, pretty much everyone! You can see all the details in their wedding video below.
